History

Queen City Hose Co. #8 proudly protects 5500 people living in an area of 8 square miles. We operate out of 1 of 5 stations in town that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. Queen City Hose Co., No. 8 was organized in 1941, with headquarters in the Liberty Hose Co. rooms, North Valley Ave. The first president was Joseph Krisanda. The unit became inactive when the Liberty Hose Co. took over in 1944. In 1945, the company became active with Michael peterson becoming its second president. The equipment was housed on the premises of Joseph "Sheriff" Kranick, owner of Queen City Recreation, 517 Susquehanna Avenue. In 1948, the company received its charter which was presented by Attorney Carlon O'Malley.
Breaking Ground picture Construction of a new company headquarters began on April 12, 1953. On December 13, 1953, the new building was opened to the public. It is a very modern building . It is 90 feet long and 26 feet wide. It consist of a garage, bar, banquet hall, kitchen, showers and a lounge room for the members.

In 1985 the company took delivery of a 1985 Hahn, 1000 Gallon per minute, very modern pumper.

In 1991, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary.

 In 2000 the company contracted for a new fire engine with a Pennsylvania company and  ended up losing their $60,000.00 deposit. See the related facts by clicking here.

In 2004, despite recent long term set backs, the company was fortunate enough to receive a federal grant  which permitted the purchase of new safety gear, air packs and various other important tools.

In 2005, thanks to the hard work of several members, state and federal grants and the generosity and continued support from you, the community, the company was able to take purchase of a brand new, state of the art, Crimson, 2000 gallon Per Minute  pumper.
